Effective date: July 26, 2026 Last updated: 2026-07-19
These terms are a contract between you and CHRP Communications Inc. ("we", "us") covering your use of the CHRP application. By installing or using CHRP you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use CHRP.
#1. What CHRP is
CHRP is a peer-to-peer communication app. It carries push-to-talk voice, messages, voice notes, and files directly between devices — over peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, local networks, Bluetooth, or, when no direct path exists, a relay we operate.
CHRP has no accounts. Your identity is generated on your device and is yours.
#2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use CHRP on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, resell, sublicense, or redistribute CHRP, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
CHRP and everything in it — software, artwork, sound, and design — remains ours or our licensors'. These terms grant you no ownership.
#3. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for everything you send through CHRP, and for the device you send it from. You agree to:
- comply with all laws that apply to you;
- communicate only with people who have agreed to communicate with you;
- keep your device secure — anyone with access to your unlocked device has access to your CHRP conversations;
- not use CHRP to interfere with, overload, or attack our relay or anyone else's device.
CHRP works when you are offline and out of network coverage, but it is not an emergency service. Do not rely on CHRP to reach emergency responders. Its SOS and check-in features notify contacts you have chosen; they do not contact 911, 999, 112, or any public emergency authority.
#4. Age
You must be at least 13 years old to use CHRP, or older if the law where you live sets a higher age for consenting to this kind of service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf.
#5. Objectionable content and abusive behaviour
#5.1 No tolerance
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users. You may not use CHRP to send, request, or solicit:
- content that sexually exploits or endangers a child, in any form;
- credible threats of violence, or content that incites or glorifies violence against a person or group;
- content that facilitates human trafficking, or the exploitation or abuse of any person;
- harassment, stalking, bullying, hate speech, or targeted abuse;
- content that is defamatory, or that infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy;
- intimate images of any person shared without that person's consent;
- unlawful goods or services, fraud, malware, or spam.
Violating this section terminates your licence to use CHRP immediately.
You also acknowledge the other side of this. Because CHRP is end-to-end encrypted, the only person who can produce evidence of a conversation is someone who was in it. If a person you are speaking with reports you for serious harm, they may disclose that conversation — including messages you sent — to our safety reviewers, and they may do so without telling you. That disclosure is theirs to make. It is the mechanism by which an encrypted service can act on serious harm at all, and by using CHRP you accept that it applies to you as well as for you.
#5.2 What we can and cannot do about it
Be clear about the trade-off you are getting: CHRP is end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read your messages or listen to your calls, and we will not build the ability to. We cannot scan, filter, or pre-moderate content, because we cannot see it.
What we can do, and do:
- You control who reaches you. No one can contact you in CHRP without you first pairing with them in person or accepting their link. There is no directory and no discovery of strangers. This is CHRP's primary content control, and it is preventive rather than reactive.
- You can block anyone, permanently. Blocking is enforced on your device and does not depend on our servers. CHRP also supports blocking a physical device, so a blocked person cannot return under a new identity from the same hardware.
- You can report anyone. Routine reports tell us only who and why — never what you said. For serious harm, you may choose to attach evidence you received; it is sealed on your device so that only an offline human reviewer can open it.
- We act on reports. We aim to acknowledge every report within 24 hours and to act on founded serious reports within 24 hours of review. Our enforcement lever is our relay: we can refuse to carry traffic for an identity. We cannot sever a purely peer-to-peer connection between two devices in the same room, and we will not claim otherwise.
- We report child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, as United States law requires.
#5.3 How to report
In the app: open a conversation, then ⋯ → Report a Safety Concern. By email: [email protected].
Our full safety policy is published at https://chrpme.io/safety.
#6. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or permanently refuse relay service to an identity that violates §5, that attacks our infrastructure, or where we are legally required to. Because CHRP has no accounts, this restricts server-mediated reach; it does not and cannot delete anything on your device.
You may stop using CHRP at any time by deleting it. Sections 7 through 11 survive.
#7. Third-party services
CHRP can control HomeKit accessories and can open links to third-party apps. Those services are governed by their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.
#8. No warranty
CHRP is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that CHRP will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any message will be delivered.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
#9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or communications, arising out of your use of CHRP — including any failure of a message, call, SOS, or check-in to be delivered.
Our total liability for any claim relating to CHRP will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for CHRP in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
#10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from content you sent through CHRP or from your breach of these terms, except to the extent the claim arises from our own wrongdoing.
#11. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought in the courts of Delaware.
If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, nothing here deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence, or of your right to bring proceedings there.
#12. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for CHRP or its content, and has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for it. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. If CHRP fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
#13. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will surface a notice in the app. Continuing to use CHRP after a change means you accept the updated terms.
